ISCA has secured funding from the Erasmus+ Sport programme to stage three NowWeMOVE events dedicated to mobilising the European Week of Sport (EWoS) this year.

Two Not-for-Profit Sport Events and one Collaborative Partnership were selected among the proposals submitted at the January deadline:

  • #BeActive FlashMOVE – a pan-European flash mob to promote the start of EWoS to be choreographed by the Sport Union of Slovenia (SUS) (Date: TBC in September)
  • Journey of Hope Cross-Border Cycling Tour – a team of Turkish recreational cyclists will lead an interactive tour across 7 European countries, and anyone will be able to join them along the way or donate kilometres from their own cycling efforts at home to the final tally (Tour dates: TBC from August to September)
  • European Fitness Day – a consortium of partners, including ukactive, the German Gymnastics Federation, SUS and BG Be Active will build on a successful practice from the UK (ukactive’s National Fitness Day) by rolling it out as a Europe-wide initiative (Date: TBC in September)

The European School Sport Day (ESSD), launched as a pilot initiative in 2015 by a collaborative partnership led by the Hungarian School Sport Federation and with ISCA, Youth Sport Trust, EUPEA, BG Be Active and V4Sport Foundation as partners, was also granted Erasmus+ Sport funding as a Not-for-Profit Sport Event supporting EWoS. ESSD will take place on 30 September and remain a highlight on the NowWeMOVE campaign’s year-round calendar.

“When we decided to shift the dates of ISCA’s MOVE Week to the spring in 2016, we did it, among other reasons, to be able to focus our autumn events and activities of the NowWeMOVE campaign towards the European Week of Sport. With the co-funding from the European Union for these three events, we will be able to make an unparalleled contribution to the European #BeActive initiative whilst continuing to expand the NowWeMOVE campaign as a diverse, year-round array of campaign opportunities,” ISCA Secretary General Jacob Schouenborg says.
