NowWeMOVE campaign presented at World Intelligent Cities Summit
City leaders, government officials, academics, urban service providers, NGOs and urban development experts gathered at 3rd Annual World Intelligent Cities Summit on 10-11 December in Istanbul, Turkey to discuss sustainability, intelligent energy, urban regeneration and technology innovation in city development.
The speakers and attendees ranged from disciplines such as science and technology to planning and economic development.
Feridun Ekmekci, the Turkish MOVE Week National Coordinator, presented at the "Energy Efficiency in sustainable urban development" session. As a National EuroVelo Coordinator for Turkey, he spoke about the importance of bicycle policy action plans – in city centres, and in local, regional, national and international contexts.
In his presentation, "Bicycle Policy & Energy Efficiency", he offered different perspectives on bike transport efficiency – showing that using bicycles saves both energy and health costs, with every kilometre of biking contributing to recommended levels of physical activity. Ekmekci then invited mayors, private companies and NGOs to join the NowWeMOVE campaign and be part of its activities in 2015.
