ISCA Signs Grant Contract for 258.000€
Health Promotion Through Sport is New Project Focus
Physical Activity Towards a Healthier Europe (PATHE) is the name of the latest ISCA project to recieve public support. ISCA has signed a grant contract with the Public Health Executive Agency of the European Commission which is worth 258.000€ over a thirty month period. This grant equals 59% of the project budget. The remain costs will be shared by sponsors, ISCA and PATHE project partners. The core partners of PATHE are:
- Slovenian Sports Union (SUS)
- Unione Italiana sport per tutti (UISP)
- Union Sportive de l'Enseignement du Premier degré (USEP)
- Danish Gymnastics and Sports Association (DGI)
The increase of obesity among Europeans is cause for concern. Obesity creates additional burden on already strained public health systems. Stakeholders, i.e. the EU, WHO and national Ministries of Health, have increased focus on the need to combat obesity and raise awareness for healthier lifestyles. PATHE is designed to build on the infrastructure of national associations of physical activity that currently represent over 70 million Europeans. The two overall objectives of PATHE are A) support and strengthen Sport For All (SFA) organisations in the development of their own health and physical activity promotion campaigns and initiatives B) actively implement the EC White Paper "A Strategy for Europe on Nutrition, Overweight, and Obesity related health issues." into existing and planned national grassroots initiatives.
PATHE will have a dedicated area on the ISCA website where you can follow and even engage your organizations in the projects activities. Activities include consultations, organizational twinning, workshops/seminars, and development of a best practice handbook.
