Take part in the Future !

You are invited to participate in the Balkan Youth and Sport Forum 2009 - BYSF ‘09. The forum will gather over 45 participants from across the Balkan region to discuss the role of youth in sport. Built around the current youth agenda in south-east Europe, the forum will put forward its perspectives on the role of youth in sport.

BYSF ‘09 will include the following themes:
  • youth participation,
  • democratic citizenship and
  • non-formal education through sport.



Objectives & Methodology

The BYSF ’09 gives young people the opportunity to meet in an international environment and:
  • Support youth leaders in discovering innovative ways of participating in decision-making processes in their own clubs and organization structures
  • Support youth leaders in promoting democratic structures in local clubs and associations
  • Provides non-formal education for youth leaders
  • Produce of declaration in order to share the ideas at local, national or international level.


Methodology of the Forum
The forum will be based on the principles and practice of non-formal education and is conceived to allow a learner-centered approach taking into account the needs, interests and the experiences of participants.

Through the use of Open Space Technology participants will be empowered to influence the agenda and the outcomes of the forum. Participants will have the opportunity to make personal contributions and will be encouraged to organize follow-up projects after the BYSF ’09 and thereby transfer the new gained knowledge to young people in their community and organizations.


Participant profile

Participants should be:
  • between 18-30 years old
  • experienced in local club or leadership activity
  • involved in volunteer activities
  • bring some experience in youth, community or sport involvement to the BYSF ‘09
  • represent an organization from the Balkan region (locally or nationally)
  • show motivation to be part of an international learning experience

The priority will be given to applicants from the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia. We will accept a number of applicants from any of the Council of Europe countries.

The working language will be English. Applicants are requested to have good knowledge of English.


Date, Venue & Costs

The BYSF ‘09 will take place from the 7th – 13th of September in the capital of Bosnia & Herzegovina, Sarajevo.
The BYSF ’09 will be held at “Hollywood Hotel”. The hotel is situated in the centre of Ilidža, a green oasis of Sarajevo, near the main road and very close to the Sarajevo International Airport and the spring of river Bosnia, unique jewel of genuine nature.

Cost of participation
Participation is free along with a contribution towards travel expenses (see below).
The organizers will provide accommodation and food

Travel expenses will be refunded according the following model:
  • Participants traveling from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Serbia max: 70€
  • Participants traveling from Slovenia or Croatia max.100€
  • Participants traveling from Macedonia, Albania or Romania max. 120€
  • Participants traveling from all other Council of Europe countries max. 200€

The organizers will need to see all original tickets and receipts to enable a refund.
We encourage participants to make use of the cheapest method of travel possible

Application & Deadline

To apply for a place on the Balkan Youth and Sport forum 2009, please complete the online application form below.

Please note that the deadline for applications is the 31st of July 2009.
Applications submitted later to this date cannot be accepted.
On the basis of the applications received ISCA will take a final decision on accepted applicants.
Confirmation of participation will be send to participants latest by the 4th of August 2009.
